The GrOW Project

Growth and Economic Opportunities for Women

This series of photographs come from an ICES study that aimed to identify barriers to women’s economic empowerment in post war environments. It speaks of the Northern Province that has one of the highest rates of poverty among women in the country. During 2015/16 researchers engaged in workshops and field work, and surveyed over 4,000 households and held 120 narrative interviews in the 5 districts in the Northern Province. The goals of the activity included drawing up evidence based findings for closing the gender gap in earnings and productivity, highlighting patterns of growth and identifying opportunities for structural change for women’s economic empowerment, and gender equality.
