Natalie Soysa

Natalie Soysa is an activist, creating work mainly as a lens-based artist but also as filmmaker, graphic designer, writer and editor. After retiring early from a 13-year career in communications, Natalie went on to focus on non-commercial initiatives, working on projects that address gender and identity in post-Colonial and post-war Sri Lanka. Natalie is also co-founder of BENDR, a design based activism platform that engages people in dialogue around gender and sexuality in a South Asian context. As a photographer, journalist and documentary filmmaker, she has been published and exhibited in several countries. She works part time as Editor for the Sri Lanka Press Institute’s various publications. Natalie has been commissioned to produce work by the Centre for Policy Alternatives, Groundviews, Royal Geographical Society, Women & Media Collective, United Nations and International Centre for Ethnic Studies
